Who are we?

Catholic Diocese of Murang’a (CDM) is a faith based organization in Central Kenya covering both Murang’a and Kirinyaga counties. The core mandate of CDM is evangelization and pastoral care. This is achieved through among others, provision of holistic health care to the people in her catchment area regardless of their religion or political affiliation.

The health department in the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a is the arm mandated with the animation of the Christ healing ministry guided by the Catholic social teachings and principles.

The department facilitates provision of quality, accessible, affordable and sustainable curative, promotive, preventive and rehabilitative health services to all with more emphasis to the less privileged and hard to reach.

Background  Information

The health department oversees and ensures smooth running of the health facilities and programs in the Diocese across the Counties of Murang’a and Kirinyaga.

The department is headed by the Diocesan health coordinator with the advisory and oversight by a multiskilled, professionally constituted Diocesan health board, Hospital governing boards and facility management committees appointed by the Bishop.

The health Department is run by a committed and qualified team with great expertise in promoting quality health care services.

Core values
Mandate

The health department derives its mandate from the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. “At sunset, all those who had friends suffering from diseases of one kind or another brought them to Jesus and laying hands on each, he cured them” Luke 4:40.

The Catholic Church has always understood that the care of the sick and the dying is a part of who we are. The roots of our healing mission lie in the life and ministry of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

What we do

  • Coordination of 24 main health facilities in the Diocese: -5 hospitals, 3 health centers, 15 dispensaries and 3 satellites clinics.
  • Implementation of clinical/community health related programs targeting different groups of people with emphasis to both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
  • Liaison with the KCCB-Catholic Health Commission, County governments of Murang’a and Kirinyaga and other stakeholders for advocacy on favorable health policies.
  • Resource mobilization and implementation of donor funded projects.
  • Health systems strengthening.
  • Contribution to human development as well as transition from one stage of life to another.
  • Charitable work.
  • Health promotion services.
